IDENTIFY PROBLEM AND PROBLEM ANALYSIS

 What is online learning?

Online learning is education that takes place over the Internet. It is often referred to as “e-learning” among other terms. However, online learning is just one type of “distance learning” - the umbrella term for any learning that takes place across distance and not in a traditional classroom

By far the most popular approach today is online learning. According to the Sloan Consortium, online enrolments continue to grow at rates faster than for the broader student population and institutes of higher education expect the rate of growth to continue increasing

Online learning is catalyzing a pedagogical shift in how we teach and learn. There is a shift away from top-down lecturing and passive students to a more interactive, collaborative approach in which students and instructor co-create the learning process. The Instructor’s role is changing from the “sage on the stage” to “the guide on the side.”

Why or reason for the issue?

The spread of the Covid-19 virus that started in 2019 from Wuhan, China has resulted in a pandemic situation all over the world. The Covid-19 virus causes the failure of a person’s respiratory system until they need a respirator assistance or ventilator and can be fatal.

The spread of the virus through the air has led the World Health Organization (WHO) to issue a recommendation for the world community to limit face-to-face interaction with each other

This situation has caused several countries to have issue a Movement Control Order (MCO) in order to control and reduce the rate of the spread of the virus. therefore, the MCO has had a huge impact on the economic, medical and especially on education.

How the problem happened?

Based on our research, we have found several causes or problems related to the topic that we are currently discover. Based on the graph as well, there are many respondents who have been respond to the survey so that we can know the problems they face while online learning.

PROBLEM ANALYSIS :

 1. POOR INTERNET CONNECTION :

Based on the graph above, we can see poor internet connection was the higher problem that have been faced during online learning as it was the main thing in online learning. If the internet connection was poor it can make their learning will be more challenging and students may find it difficult to understand the subject that being taught. Therefore, they need to increase their internet speed so that their learning can run smoothly.

Upgrading the internet may not be a major barrier for those students who are can afford it. But, this is a big problem for student who are have financing problem as we can see most student have that problem based on the graph.

Although, that our government has provided assistance to students by lowering the price of the internet plans, it still has been a major problem for student who are live un rural area and have poor internet connections.

So this situation indirectly need students to find alternative to take online class and complete task that require a strong internet connection.

2. LACK OF ENGAGING INTERACTION:

Based on the graph above, we can analyst that lack of engaging interaction was the intermediate problem has been faced during online learning. For example, Students may no longer have an internet connection, a device to use, or a space to learn in. Some students may not be available to meet at specific times. Others may have a lot going on in the background that they’re trying to block out or even hide from the rest of the class. In the classroom, when you work with your students in person every day, you can get a sense of who may be going through something difficult at home. You can privately check in to see how things are going. During distance learning, it’s harder to have those one-on-one conversations, `especially with students who aren’t engaged.

Besides, make sure materials are accessible can be a major challenge, whether students are going online or picking up paper packets. If students aren’t comfortable with the system you’re using, they might avoid it. It takes time to establish norms and practices with a new system — especially when it involves technology. It’s hard to measure engagement when you’re all still learning how the new system works.

Moreover, Lack of engaging interaction is a same as lack of social interactions can potentially lead to mental health problems. Many articles and studies have been done and particularly analyzed this year, concluding that  human isolation is becoming the new norm.

Therefore, it can be one of the problems why online learning leads students to have a problem during PDPR online learning.

3)LACK OF SELF MOTIVATION TO LEARN

During the pandemic, lack of motivation is something that many are currently going through every day at any time. It’s more common for those who go to school and have to work. Other times, personal reasons may get in the way.

The first day of school is typically the day students learn who their teachers and classmates are going to be for the school year.  Now with an online school and having class through a computer screen, it’s can't be the same anymore. The first day of school wasn’t about getting to know each other and interacting with others. Instead, students were assigned work and other activities that have to do alone by yourself.

Most students are experiencing stress and lack of motivation because of the number of assignments they receive each day. Many have a hard time learning through online school and would much rather have in-person learning.

Now with this new way of learning students are mostly just home every day from the minute they wake up and start school to when the school day ends. Some don’t even go out a lot or at all because they are taking care of themselves and don’t want to put themselves or others at risk. Going to school in person gave the students an everyday settled routine and they had the opportunity to talk to their friends in person and go out after school.

With a lack of motivation comes laziness for many people. We lack the energy necessary to do big tasks including everyday simple tasks. It’s very common with high school students, especially this year because it’s easy to just stay in bed all day and not do anything. Without any monitor and guides from any of the family members, maybe the student will arbitrarily skip every class session because of the laziness and also the lack of enthusiasm due to this kind of situation.

The lack of motivation that many students experience holds them back from achieving and experiencing new things. Many have the potential to do better and succeed, but don’t have the motivation to do it. If they were motivated , they would be able to do a lot of things and they can achieve their goal easily and will be one step ahead to achieve their dreams.

4)UNCLEAR & INCONSISTENT LEARNING STRUCTURELACK OF SELF MOTIVATION TO LEARN

In this era, most schools and universities held online learning because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Some students do not have to go to school or university to study. This is because the government has set Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to prevent the transmission of the COVID-19 virus. Although, the government has made it easier for students and teachers to do learning activities, namely online learning, but there are some problems that arise due to this. Among them, some students face the problem of learning structure that is not clear and inconsistent.

There are a number of students who have their own problems that affect their performance during online learning classes. This is due to several factors including waking up late. So students need to manage their daily time well so that students can rest and get enough sleep to wake up early in the morning. in addition, there are students who do not have a good internet supply, this problem can interfere with the consistency of students during online classes. Therefore, students can inform the lecturer about the internet connection problem, so that the lecturer can help the problem or provide other learning methods to the students who are unable to attend online classes due to internet connection problem.
